Landsat Science provides input to maintain the success of the Landsat Mission, while also ensuring that the Landsat program represents the only source of global, calibrated, moderate spatial resolution measurements of the Earth’s surface that can be compared to previous data records.

Landsat Science Teams: Landsat Science Teams provide technical and scientific input to USGS and NASA to help ensure the success of the Landsat program while providing science support on issues including data acquisition, product access and format, and science and applications opportunities. The teams are funded by the USGS and co-chaired by the USGS and NASA.

Calibration: Calibration and validation are important aspects of any remote sensing system. The calibration of the Landsat sensors is supported by preflight, post launch-onboard, and ground reference data.

The Landsat 7 Science Data Users Handbook and the Landsat 8 Data Users Handbook are living documents managed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Landsat Project Science Office at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, SD, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Landsat Project Science Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland.

About

Landsat represents the world's longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data. Four decades of imagery provides a unique resource for those who work in agriculture, geology, forestry, regional planning, education, mapping, and global change research. Landsat images are also invaluable for emergency response and disaster relief.
