Question:

Will Landsat data be available in both Collection 1 and Pre-Collection data sets?

Answer:

Effective April 30, 2017, newly-acquired Landsat 7 ETM+ and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS scenes will be processed into the Landsat Collection 1 inventory structure only; Landsat Pre-Collection datasets will no longer be populated with new data.

Landsat Pre-Collection datasets will no longer be available after October 1, 2017. Users are strongly encouraged use Landsat Collection 1 data in their applications.

The Landsat Collections Web page contains details about all aspects of the Collection 1 effort.

About

Landsat represents the world's longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data. Four decades of imagery provides a unique resource for those who work in agriculture, geology, forestry, regional planning, education, mapping, and global change research. Landsat images are also invaluable for emergency response and disaster relief.
